Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP)

PRP Therapy for Hair Restoration

Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) is a novel medical technology used for skin rejuvenation, hair loss restoration and other regenerative treatments.

What is PRP Therapy for Hair Restoration?

PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) is an exciting non-surgical hair loss treatment that preserves and thickens hair for patients experiencing hair loss or thinning. PRP uses the ability of your own platelets to initiate your own stem cell response to repair.

The PRP mixture is applied to the bald and thinning areas of the scalp followed by a micro-needling treatment using the Renu MicroPen, a state-of-the-art automated microneedling device. The tip of this device contains 12 tiny micro-needles that create controlled micro-injuries in the skin to induce you own body healing response. The process takes approximately one hour in-office with minimal discomfort and minimal downtime.

PRP treatments are considered safe and natural as you are using growth factors from your own body so there is no chance of blood infection or an adverse immune response.

 How is PRP therapy done?

Our trained medical staff will apply numbing medication to your forehead and other areas on the scalp for a ring block. A blood sample is drawn (either 30 cc or 60 cc), and the sample is placed in a highly specialized centrifuge to obtain the PRP.  Dr. Essary injects your PRP in the areas of your scalp needing treatment. The injections are done with a small gauge needle, which is associated with reduced discomfort due to the local anesthetic used. It takes about 30 min to prepare your PRP and 30-40 min to inject the PRP in your scalp. If the hair thinning is near the forehead, a microneedling technique may be used instead of the individual injections.

Before your PRP Therapy, you will have a thorough consultation with Dr. Essary who will evaluate your medical history to determine if this procedure is appropriate for you. She will review your goals and expectations.

PRP is not recommended in people with certain blood disorders, blood or bone cancers or autoimmune disorders. Patients are advised to discontinue blood thinning medication or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications at least seven days prior to their PRP therapy and upon approval by their doctors.

How is PRP obtained?

PRP is a concentrated blood sample that contains high levels of your own platelets and growth factors that are essential for stimulating tissue regeneration and repair. Growth factors derived from platelets are responsible for bone and soft tissue regeneration and the stimulation of a wound healing process.

The Harvest Smart Prep -3 PRP System is a highly specialized centrifuge that offers top of the line technology to deliver a high concentrate of platelets and growth factors to attain regenerative therapy. The Harvest Smart Prep-3 is available at our location on Bedford Rd.

Lip augmentation is a cosmetic procedure that can give you fuller, plumper lips. The most common method of lip augmentation is injectable dermal fillers.375x321_lipfil

There are several types of dermal fillers that can be injected in your lips and and the most common are products that contain substances similar to hyaluronic acid, a natural ingredient of the skin. These types of dermal fillers are sometimes called “hyaluronic acid fillers.”There are several hyaluronic acid fillers on the market. Among them we use: Juvederm Ultra and Juvederm Ultra Plus

One of the benefits of these fillers is that once injected, the gel in the filler supports and shapes the tissues of the lips. The amount of filler can be controlled and given gradually at different appointments until the desired look is achieved. Because hyaluronic acid fillers are made from substances similar to those found in the body, it is unlikely they will cause an allergic reaction. If you are allergic to lidocaine or other medication, you need to inform the doctor prior to any procedure.

Lasers

Laser Skin Tightening and Rejuvenation

Skincare laser pigment color change at day spa being preformed on face of woman by technician. Using advanced laser technology, the collagen beneath the surface of the skin is heated, causing it to constrict, thus tightening loose facial skin and giving the appearance of firm, youthful skin with less fine lines and wrinkles. While laser skin tightening results may not be as dramatic as those of a face lift, patients enjoy moderate results with no downtime.

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) can treat any area of your body and improve the overall tone and texture of your skin, reducing the visible signs of aging. Laser skin rejuvenation is an ideal treatment for a number of skin concerns such as brown spots and fine wrinkles.

Laser Hair Removal

This service starts with a consultation with our physician or highly experienced laser nurse technician. Once the right combination of wavelengths is determined, the service can start. Laser hair removal involves the use of laser energy to eliminate the growth of hair. There are various lasers used to optimize the success of reduction of the growth of hair from areas of unwanted hair. Most patients who complete the Medica MedSpa laser hair removal treatment series achieve up to 80% permanent reduction. About 20% of hair will still regrow despite multiple treatments, but these hairs are very fine and wispy. Patients who have completed a series of six treatments at Medica MedSpa can join the Medica Hair Removal Club and return at any time for a low-cost fast laser removal, which will again produce a prolonged sleeping phase (telogen phase) of months duration.

Laser Skin Resurfacing (By Request)

Skincare laser pigment color change at day spa being preformed on face of woman by technician.Fractional laser resurfacing is a relatively new method of skin rejuvenation in which precisely spaced areas of the skin are targeted, leaving some skin perfectly intact while other zones are treated with laser light. The untreated areas maintain the tissue’s stability for quicker recovery. Fractional lasers are typically divided into two categories – non-ablative and ablative. – Non-ablative means the laser light actually passes through the skin, leaving the top layers unaffected. With non-ablative fractional lasers, small zones of tissue are heated beneath the skin, leaving skip areas next to the damaged areas. Over time new collagen is formed in the areas treated, leaving the skin smoother, tighter, and with better texture and tone. – Ablative laser treatments are more severe and can cause epidermal burning. Recovery time is longer, as much as a few weeks. For patients with more extensive sun damage, deeper wrinkles, ice pick and box scars, the ablative laser may offer superior results that justify significant downtime. The procedure is done at our clinic and requires limited preparation. A topical gel is used for anesthesia. Downtime is 4-5 days.

Acne Scar Reduction (By Request)

At Medica Med Spa, fractional lasers and Intense Pulse lights are used for the reduction of acne scars. Our treatments employ the best available technology to yield the best possible outcome: a clear and smooth skin in our patients. The reduction of acne scars require a series of treatments, generally 3 to 6, performed once every three weeks. We use intense pulsed light, photo facial and / or long pulsed Yag laser energy to remove redness or brown pigmentation surrounding the acne scars.
